Kvadrat textiles bring softness, storytelling, and sustainable craftsmanship to a striking Nordic hotel on Harstad’s waterfront. Rising eleven storeys above the fjord in Harstad’s Kaarbøkvarteret, Quality Hotel Harstad is both a new landmark and a social gathering place. The architecture by A-Lab and interior design by HAEG draw directly from the site’s industrial heritage and raw Northern nature. Throughout the hotel, Kvadrat textiles play a key role in shaping the guest experience, connecting rugged architecture with warmth, and anchoring large-scale interiors in colour, comfort, and tactile detail.

Weaving identity into every surface
To honour the location’s heritage, the interior features exposed steel, stone, and concrete, a palette that reflects the maritime history of Harstad’s shipyards. Kvadrat’s contribution was to create textile moments that counterbalance this roughness. In a dedicated collaboration with Innvik, Kvadrat developed a custom textile in a herringbone pattern, used for decorative cushions in all 180 guest rooms. Complementing these, CMP Innvik cushions are specified throughout, while CMP Innvik bedspreads feature in the suites, adding layers of tactility and craftsmanship to the guestroom experience.

Textile-led zones of comfort and calm
From guestrooms to public spaces, Kvadrat textiles serve to define zones and shift atmospheres throughout the hotel. In the lounge and lobby, Haku, Harald 3, Zero, and Canvas 2 provide durable yet inviting upholstery, softening acoustics, absorbing light, and offering a warm counterpoint to the raw materials of the building. In the guestrooms, Jaali enriches the surfaces with refined tactility, Rocket is chosen for the curtains, Revive 1 is applied to the bed skirts surrounding the mattresses, and Canvas 2 ties together both private and public areas through its versatile use across spaces. These combinations create a layered and coherent textile identity that ensures comfort and continuity

Supporting sustainability through textile choice
Kvadrat’s involvement also reflects the hotel’s broader sustainability goals. In line with Nordic Choice Hotels’ environmental standards, the project team selected materials with circular potential and long-term resilience. Kvadrat and Innvik’s custom textile was produced locally in Norway to reduce transport and support regional manufacturing.
