Project
Kvadrat textiles are used throughout the Le Méridien hotel in Zhengzhou, China. Envisioned as a landmark for the Henan province, this has been conceived by Neri&Hu Design and Research Office.

A 25-storey tower, Le Méridien Zhengzhou is composed of stacked rectangular frames around its facades. Conceptually, it is an archive of new and old artefacts that acts as point of discovery for travellers and locals alike.

At the base of the tower there is a 5-storey podium for public functions. Its design is inspired by the region’s
historic Longmen Caves, where Chinese Buddhist art can be seen carved into the limestone cliff.

On the floors above the podium there are 350 private guestrooms. Le Méridien Zhengzhou also offers three restaurants and a rooftop bar, which have each received a different architectural treatment.

The design idea behind the guestrooms is to explore the contrast between light and dark. Sleeping areas feature
grey walls and a stained timber wainscot; bathroom areas are finished in glass and white materials.

Solution
Curtains made from Air, in a grey shade, and Balder in a dark blue are used in public spaces. All the furniture in the central atrium is upholstered with Divina, Divina Melange and Harald. These fabrics, along with Tonica, are also used for cushions. Selected sofas and chairs in the public lounge spaces and guestrooms are also upholstered with Divina and Divina Melange.
