The hotel W in Osaka, W’s first hotel in Japan, features a scale of Kvadrat in indoor and outdoor spaces. Nestled in the fun-filled heart of Shinsaibashi on Midōsuji Boulevard, it blends the city’s cultural legacy with bold contemporary design to offer a social, luxurious experience.
In line with the interior concept, Concrete chose textiles that reflect Osaka’s sights, sounds, flavours, and thrills. For instance, the city’s neon streetscape is translated into an abstractive rainbow coloured sequence of furniture in the Living Room.
Bart de Beer, Associate Partner Concrete: “Colourful upholsteries are an important aspect of the design story of W Osaka. In the Living Room, for example, the social heart of the hotel, we envisioned the furniture to be arranged in a rainbow sequence. Kvadrat's comprehensive collection made it possible for us to carefully select a specific colour and fabric for each furniture element, together creating the perfect gradient.”
A range of custom furniture throughout the hotel is upholstered in Hallingdal, which is also used for Herman Miller pieces, together with Canvas and Tonica. Selected designs from Moroso are covered in Drop by Febrik.
In addition, furniture in the guest rooms, including the King Suites, is upholstered with Tonica. Patio, an outdoor textile, is employed around the pool in a spectrum of colours. Stick Tree, Coda and Forest Nap also play a vibrant part in the hotel.
Concrete found inspiration in Osaka’s “extravagant simplicity” when they created the concept for the hotel, from the simple beauty of the cherry blossoms and gingko trees lining the Midosuji Boulevard to the vibrant neon of Dotonburi, the city’s bustling nightlife district.
