A Pocket Universe for the urban nomads
For the 25hours Hotel Zurich Langstrasse Werner Aisslinger and his team chose a variety of Kvadrat textiles. A wide colour palette of Steelcut Trio, Hallingdal 65, Basel, Harald, Bright Grid, Field and Umami feature throughout the hotel. A custom version of Time Out with a special print is used for curtains.
Like a universe, the hotel comprises many different dimensions. These include a light-hearted art installation by Studio Aisslinger, ‘Reset Bar’ for ‘mind-resetting’, kiosk, Cinchona bar, NENI restaurant, ‘Trainspotting Sauna’ and guest rooms – in a choice of M, L and XL.
‘Kvadrat textiles helped us to realise the “pocket universe” concept and a unique atmosphere, which is specific to the hotel. We aimed to create a cocoon of an experience; colour plays a crucial role,’ Werner Aisslinger.
‘Pocket Universe’ – the design concept– is grounded in the idea that the hotel is a small, evolving universe in itself, within the larger universes of Zurich and Switzerland. It encapsulates the attitude that, like DJs, architects sample material from different sources.
Reflecting this, a collage of materials is used throughout the 25hours Hotel Zurich, such as metal sheets, wood, ceramic tiles, glass, stone, concrete and textiles. The interior is also characterised by an eclectic mix of new designs, flea market finds and classics.
Many of the pieces at the hotel were designed by Studio Aisslinger independently and in collaboration with a roster of leading design brands, including: Cappellini, Conmoto, Rolf Benz and Desede.
25hours Hotel Zurich Langstrasse, a Minergie-certified sustainable building, is situated at the joint of the city’s Langstrasse and newly developed Europaallee quartier. The concept and interior architecture for the 170-room hotel are by Studio Aisslinger.
